Three friends, 47 Facebook groups and an app
We're three friends from the Nordics who got fed up hunting for travel buddies across 47 Facebook groups. So we built the app we wished existed.
Skandineer is a simpler way to find Scandinavians to travel with and to meet on the road. Find travel companions before you go, see other Nordics and groups nearby on a map (never anyone's exact location), see who is heading to the same place on the same dates, and chat one-to-one or in groups.

How we work
We write the guides. The sources have the final say.
Our guides are written in Swedish and cover visas, money, moving abroad and health, where a mistake can cost a reader for real. That is why checking is the biggest part of the work, not writing.
Every guide starts with a question
Before we write, we decide which question the page should answer and which sources settle the answer. Writing is quick. Knowing that what it says is correct takes time, so the rest of the process is built around exactly that.
Every claim goes on a list
Everything in the draft that can be checked, such as amounts, age limits, visa rules, addresses and dates, is written down on a list that travels with the article. As long as the list isn't empty, an automated check blocks publication.
Checked against the primary source
Each item is looked up with whoever actually decides: the authority, the embassy, the university or the organisation's own website. If it is wrong, the text is corrected. If it can't be verified, the claim is removed. A missing claim is better than a wrong one.
Technically true isn't enough
A sentence where every word is true but the whole is misleading counts as an error. Comparisons between countries and organisations get extra scrutiny, because a figure can be right for one way of counting and wrong for another.
Dates and sources are visible
Every guide shows when it was last updated, and most end with their sources and the date of the latest fact-check. Rules and prices change, so always check the current wording with the source before you decide.
1,109
claims were checked against sources in the first review of the site's first 86 guides.
An error we caught
A guide about Mexico City referred to Mexican states that the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises against travelling to. Mexico is not on the ministry's list. The reference was removed two days before publication, and the finding is in our review log.
Health and vaccines
Guides on vaccines, malaria and medicines follow the advice of the Public Health Agency of Sweden and 1177, give no individual dosage advice and refer readers to a travel vaccination clinic. The clinic decides what you need for your particular trip.
What we don't do
Invented experiences
The guides are not written in the first person, don't claim that someone has lived in the place and don't quote invented people. If you still find a sentence like that, it is an error and we want to know.
Numbers about the app
The guides never say how many people use Skandineer in a place or who is there right now.
Paid links
The guides have no affiliate links. We earn nothing when you click through to a source.
Corrections
Found an error?
Email us the link to the guide and what is wrong, ideally with a source. We check it against the primary source and correct the text if you are right.
Email a correctionhello@skandineer.se
- Every correction is recorded in our review log: what was wrong and what applies.
- When the content changes, the Updated date moves forward, so you can see that the guide has changed.
