Delete your Skandineer account

This page explains how to delete your account in the Skandineer app, published by Skandineer AB. You can delete the account yourself in the app, or ask us to do it by email if you no longer have the app.

Delete your account in the app

  1. Open Skandineer and sign in.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top left corner.
  3. Tap the gear in the top right corner to open Settings.
  4. Tap Delete account. The app asks why you are leaving, but you can skip the questions.
  5. Confirm with Delete account.

Delete account is also available under Settings → Privacy.

Delete your account without the app

No longer have the app, or can't get into your account? Email hello@skandineer.se and tell us you want your Skandineer account deleted. Email us from the address the account is registered with. If the request comes from a different address, we first confirm that it is you by emailing the account's address. We then delete the account for you in the same way as when you delete it in the app, with one difference: your memberships in groups and activities do not end immediately, but when the account is permanently deleted after 30 days.

Do you have a subscription?

Deleting your account does not cancel a Skandineer Plus subscription. Cancel the subscription where you bought it, in the App Store or Google Play, before you delete your account.

What happens when the account is deleted

  • The account is deactivated immediately and you are signed out. Your profile, your pin and your content stop being visible.
  • For 30 days you can change your mind by signing in again with the same email address.
  • Your memberships in groups and activities end immediately and are not restored if you change your mind.
  • After 30 days your data is permanently deleted. This cannot be undone.

What is deleted

  • Account and sign-in: email address and password.
  • Profile: display name, date of birth, gender, home country, languages, profile picture, bio and interests.
  • Location: your stored location and your pin.
  • Trips, posts and images you have uploaded, except cover images for groups and activities that remain (see below).
  • Memberships in groups and activities, blocks, notifications and details about your devices.
  • Messages you have sent: the text and images are removed, and the others in the conversation see that the message was deleted.
  • Comments you wrote on other people's posts: the text is removed and the comment remains without your name, so the thread still makes sense.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Accounting records for purchases: at least 7 years under the Swedish Bookkeeping Act, in anonymized form with no link to you.
  • Security and moderation log: kept in anonymized form, with no link to you.
  • Copies of messages you sent that were reported: anonymized. A copy is deleted 90 days after the report is closed without action. If the report led to a decision, the copy follows the moderation log.
  • Groups and activities you created remain for the other people in them, and one of them takes over as owner. Cover images you uploaded to groups and activities that remain are also kept, with no link to you.
  • Usage statistics are kept for up to 1 year, session recordings for up to 30 days and crash reports for 90 days. They are linked to an internal ID, never to your name or email address.
  • If the account is under an active suspension, the information the case requires is kept for as long as the case is open, and for no more than 12 months, before it is deleted.
  • If someone wrote your name in their own message, it remains in that person's conversation, just as in email and text messages.
